cluster conversion!

hey Buds:

I was wondering since i like to see my "rpms" is there is there a hook up for a new cluster. I know the si's came with a tach but unluckily I dont have one. I would appreciate some info on this problem.

i know there is a way...i personally don't know how... but you don't want to see your "RPMS" you want to see your "RPM"

Ok, I had a 1991 dx cluster in my car. All I did was purchase an Si cluster with the tachometer. I unplugged the dx cluster and then replaced it with the Si cluster. It was simple plug and play. The only difference is that you need to get the cluster from your year car. For example, if you have an 88-89 you need an 88-89 Si cluster. If you have a 90-91 you need to get a 90-91 Si cluster. it is possible to go from an 89 to a 91. i know..i'm the idiot that did. i have the wiring charts if anyone else wants to try, but it's insane how much easier it is if you just have the right year clusters. also..crx cluster and civic cluster is shaped differently. i had an extra 89 si cluster but i broke it last night playing w/ indiglo gauges . i'm going to the yard this afternoon to see what i can find. will a sedan cluster work?..dunno if that has a tach though. as far as the tach goes..it's the blue wire that is either in the first or second slot in the 12 pin connector. if it's there then you're all good..if it's not..i'm not sure, but i think you need to run a wire to the ignitor or distributor..not sure where though.

As long as the sedam cluster comes from the ex model it should be good to go.

I think the LX has a tach too, but don't hold me too it.
The sedan cluster I am pretty sure is the same shape as the hatch cluster, and as 91zc said, as long as you match 88-89 or 90-91 you should be OK and not have the issues that Ben had

4-doors kick butt & I in a quandry about that ZC! Is the time to rebuild it and make it 'right' worth the time & money if I were to get another ZC with unknown history???

back from the yard..89 dx hatch..no tach. 88 dx hatch..no tach. 90 lx sedan. no tach. sorry man. found some fly 84 prelude 13s tho .

90 LX, no tach? WTF? Oh well...

hey perndog....have you tried some place like e-bay or thepartstrader.com?

What I did was just bought an aftermarket tach and screwed it to my a-pillar..I hear the stock tachs are not super-accurate anyway. My little Sunpro tach was $38. and only requires one wire into the engine bay (which is true of just about any after-market tach.
